Has anyone changed out their plastic dashboard buttons for the replacement aluminium ones? If anyone has I would appreciate to know what tool was used to remove the original buttons.I had a look at mine last night but bottled it over fear of wrecking the dash surround.

I replaced mine, and I have to admin it scared me witless when I read the instructions. Nothing to it really though. The plastic ones are just clipped on, and you can prise them off fairly easily. I used a reasonably sharp implement and basically skewered them just below the top, then just flicked them out. No need to lever against the dash or anything, they are not held that securely. Maybe if you are worried about it you could stick some masking tape around the hole first in case you slip. Depends how cack handed you are I guess!!

Thanks for that Phil.I had thought about drilling a tiny hole in the button and using a self tapper to draw it off but your method sounds the business.

It's a doddle - if it'll break I'll break it but was easy. And well worth it too

I used a paper clip which I bent a little to create a small "hook" which just fitted between the existing button and the dashboard. Then I twisted the paper clip to grab the inside of the button and pulled it out. Worked very well.

I used a needle (darning type - big) and pushed it into the side of the plastic button where it is slightly raised above the dash. You can then lift them out directly without touching the dash - just in case I cut a button sized hole in a square piece of card and placed this over each button as I removed them to give added protection to the surrounding dash in case the needle slipped. No problems at all - and the needle mark is tiny - if you wanted to replace them Paul
