Replacing steering UJ's
Discussion
Well I've got them off, but fitting the new ones is proving a little difficult to say the least.
Even with both UJ's pushed pass the pinch pin grooves the lower steering shaft is too long to allow it to push into the last UJ.
Does anyone know if I need to pull the steering column back or am I missing something obvious?
Any ideas?
Oh and while your thinking, has anybody replaced a steering column bearing? I need to know how to get to it, is it form the footwell or inner wheel arch?
Any advice very welcome.
Cheers
David

David,
Have you checked they are the same length as the ones you have taken off.
The upper UJ on mine(96 also) is shorter in length than the lower UJ. But when ordering one they sent me the Longer one and that wont go on.
Some have the same length upper and lower UJs so a bit pot luck.
When putting on i pushed the lower one on first with the rod pushed through as far as would go.
Then pushed the upper on to the rod as far aswell then it should go onto the steering column end.
Then when pushing it onto the column end you should be able to adjust the length of rod in the ujs, dont have them through to far as they will bind when turning.
Hope that helps
