My '92 4.3 has twin fans, made by 'PAL'. Are these the 500 fans?
They are fixed together by a 'doubleheaded bolt' and to the edges of the rad by the same.
Black plastic housing, forgot to count the number of blades.
One's b*ggered so I need a single fan, not a whole kit.

If they're 500 fans I'll go to TVR, if not I'll try and find a suitable replacement pair at the Exeter Kit Car Show this w/e - so replies this pm appreciated...ta.

Same as me - 4.3 '92 with twin fans - unless both cars have been upgraded, I think some of the precats had twin fans as standard, except very early ones. I think mine might be PAL as well, and the mountings sound the same, but its 8am, I've just finished work, and that garage looks cold and 'orrible. Might have a look later tho'...

I've just replaced mine on a 92J 4ltr, I got them from the TVR Centre, Barnet, mine were not 500 fans, they take a higher current than your fuse box will allow. 500 fans are the same shape and will fit, but they have a much bigger motor, if your motors are flush with the centre of the fan then they are the same as mine. Around £56 (same price as alternative suppliers) each, TVR dealers know them as a type 72.

It's SPAL by the way.

Yes - you're right! I saw a GT40 replica with the very same fans - and I realised my sticker had worn...

Cheers for the info - much appreciated.

The fans are made by Spal from Italy, I had to replace one on my 92 Griff, TVR dealers wanted £80-£90 if I remember, I managed to get one from a Spal UK distributor for about £45, I will try and dig out the details and mail you. The 500 fans are different, a lot deeper.

Chris.

Try Docking engineering at Silverstone 01327 857164. They also make Vgood alloy radiators.

If you want to go for the big boy 500s, its very easy to rewire so as to halve the fuse box draw. I can send details.

The fans are already fed direct from the alternator, via a 40 amp relay and a 30 amp fuse. Is that sufficient for a pair of 500 spec fans?
What is the current draw of the 500 fans and the 4.x fans?

The 500 fans do not take much more when running(12amps), its the surge that will pop a 30amp fuse and even a 40! Probably better to seperate them to make sure, like the later cars with 2 relays and fuses.

The 500 fans are also a lot more expensive.
