The Griff has just had another new engine, but now has a problem with the fans, they come on when the ignition is on but when the car is started they turn off straight away and won’t come back on.

Any ideas what would cause this?

Wiring fault. Something got moved shorted out when the engine was refitted. Try working back from the fan connectors and otter switch and chcek them with a multimeter. Alternatively take it back to those that fitted the engine.

Its still with the company who fitted the engine, they have rebuilt the engine as after they built it the first time it used lots of oil, they are not charging for the work, only for the new block.

Problem they are saying it’s nothing they have done so will charge to fix the fault, means I’d rather go down and fix it myself.

I'd say if it worked before they changed the engine, it is their fault.

Not sure why you would need a new block due to excessive oil use. New rings or new liners but an entire block?

Apparently it had oval bores, why they didn’t spot that when they rebuilt it the first time I don’t know, anyway they said it would be about £500 to fit liners, but when they stripped it said it was better to go for a complete new block but would still charge the same price.

I’d like the say you broke it you fix it but I had trouble enough getting them to try and sort out the engine, fixing the fans I can live with.
