Noises from fuel tank?

Just noticed that when I open the boot with the engine running there is quite a loud gurgling/hissing noise comming from the right hand side, somewhere near the top of the fuel tank I think. I rarely open the boot with engine on so never noticed it before. Would this be the pump or is it some sort of breather? Can you hear it on yours? Not particualy worried as it all seems to work fine, just sounds very loud to me....

Ps, its a '92 pre-cat.
