Did a 'day trip' to Essen in Germany on Thursday departing Sussex at 1:45am getting home at around 9:30pm - it was an excellent drive and was the first real opportunity to 'See what she could do'

Anyway was pretty cold driving through France & Belgium - the red snow flake light was on ( I don't know how cold is was but when I filled up with petrol just south of Antwerp I didn't want hang around outside ) - but bascially the engine temperature stuck around 65 all the way till around dawn. As I understand it this is below the recommended 70 - can anyone tell me if this is likely to cause any problems ?

Additionally once I got to Germany I was able ( Well Legally able ) to open her up - anyway at around 130mph the driver side wiper began to lift off the screen ! ( At little bit distracting I can tell you ! ). has any one else experienced this ? and is it to be expected ?

My solution for the return journey was just fiddle with the wipers until they pointed up the screen ! between traffic I got upto 150 and the things stayed put !

i'd say thats too cold. many cars have cooler thermostats in ( mine has a 75degree one in) so that car should stay there or above!
in freezing temps, the thermostat would be partially closed, reducing coolant flow and increasing temperature to the required minimun ie 75dgrees.
not a common fault, a cold griff by a failed to safe thermostat or a missing one!! may be the answer!
by the way. at this temp the heater would not work...so were you cold? could be an iffy gauge!

No probs with the heater - all warm & cosy - hence the shock when filling up !

It is caused by the air flow. About the only thing you can do about it is to block off some of the rad to reduce the cooling.

Yes. You'll be asking about a stick on rear window heater next... and where the choke is...

Rolling blinds ? Hmm I think I can do one better - think I have some spare venetian blinds in the loft - maybe I could install those ...

wipers lifting is common. I overcame it by fitting a stiffer spring (a porsche 911 one would do the trick as they had the self same problem a few years back)

I've also heard of folks fitting a second spring to tension it all up as well.

I've found the best solution for lifting wipers it to not use them at all. Clean your screen thoroughly with methylated spirits and then apply Rain-X. The faster you go the clearer it gets. Safe for use on the rear screen and headlamp lenses too IIRC.
