hi chaps
anybody got any ideas how to make the fuel gauge more accurate? mines runs out of fuel at 1/4 of a tank indicated (most embarrasing)

If you take the sender out, right side of petrol tank and then bend the rod with the float down a bit then it should read further down the tank.

BE WARNED though as it is quite possible to bend it to much and/or get it to foul on the baffles in the Tank ( Been their done that).

I also offered the Rod etc up to the outside of the tank to give a rough guide on where the float would go down and up to. While its out if you plug the sendor back in and the ignition is on( cover the open hole to stop fumes coming out) then you can watch the gauge through the rear window while you adjust the float accordingly.

Hope that makes sense and is of some help

Here's an easier version: remember where 'empty' actually is (in my case about 1/8 full!) and fill up before you get to it. Saves mucking about with your fuel tank!

Pull carpet back, undo push connector, unscrew 8 screws. Fiddle with floater, reverse earlier procedure.

Mine does the same, but you get to know the fuel starvation "miss" (gulp), esp. on LH corners! Perhaps it's a SE thing!

BB do you bother to drain the tank as per the Bible - or is this not strictly necessary?

thanks guys, I will give that a go next weekend. Simpo I could live with 1/8 being empty but mines on the wrong side of 1/4!
and there was me thinking how economical she was 200 miles on 3/4 of a tank.

You're lucky - mine just stopped! (whilst at 70 on a dual carriageway). Coincidentally I was driving back from having some work done to the car, so as soon as I rolled into a handy layby, I got on the mobile to give them a mouthful. First thing they said was 'Has it run out of petrol?' Oooops!

Hope you tweaked it the right way - or it will run out at 3/4!
