Hi
I'm looking at getting a radar detector and having done a bit of research the best seems to be OriginB2. However didn't really plan on spending the best part of £400. Is there something a bit cheaper that is still good? I'll ideally need it to spot speed cameras and traps on all kinds of road. Obviously £400 is worth it compared to points/fine/ban but just not sure what's good on the market.

Cheers
Lawrence

Lawrence - check the search facility and look for discussion on the report on Fifth Gear earlier this week, there are loads of opinions on this stuff.

To summerise - to be bullet proof you need a combination of technologies i) a GPS based system such as Origin B2 or Road Angel and ii) a Laser Jammer such as the LRC 100. Check out eBay and the internet for good deals on both of these at around £600/£650 the pair. Rich...

There's a load of comments on the General Gassing section and a download of the Fifth Gear programme(if you're inet connection is up to it). Hope you find it, if not shout.

But - if it's true that Plod can get a speed reading in half a second, if the alarm goes off you're not going to slow down in time anyway - or am I missing something?

That's what the jammer fixed though (as on 5th gear) Simp. You're right a GPS device wont help against that

Also look in the Reviews page in the drop down Nav bar up there.

I have the Cyclops Gps one got it e-bay for £240.
OK it doesnt show the Radar gun ones but does warn me of all Truvelos,Gatsos,Specs and Known Tempoary traps and the Varied speed Limits like on the M25.
It has a few other toys on it aswell.

So really you need

gps system for fixed cameras
a detector for mini gatsos
jammer for hand held devices and you'll get done even more if you get caught with one installed.

that's quite a bit of kit especially if you drive 2 cars.

gps is essential, they'll pick up ALL sites but as for gun detecting - their crap!
i've a road angel and it knows where everything is and has a radar detector...but this only works on cop cars fitted with radar/laser as it mounts on the dash which is too high for sidewalk guns - their beam is too small and aimed at the No. plate. I'VE PROVEN THIS!!

(a little bird tells me that they have a No. plate mounted sensor on the way which will cure this).

but as you only have about 2 seconds to recognise the alarm, correct and your speed, i'm not sure it'll help many people!!

so i'm happy with the road angel

for those who saw top gear...the loverly vicky was waving the gun all over the shop thus setting all the detectors off. your average plod however is a bit of a sharpshooter and does NOT set of the gizmos.
as i said, proven many times!!!

and as far as the jammer goes...anyone who thinks that the law is going to ignore a speeding car (he thinks so or else he wouldn't be gunning you!)that gives a"E04" error code the fist time he hits it, well...

by the way guys, i'm NOT PLOD, just a guy who does 30K a year and has a BARELY (lot of luck & technology) clean liscence!!!
