Straw poll: do people have fan-belt heat shields on their Griff 500s?

When my car (2000) was in with Steve Howard for fettling, he noticed that it didn't have a fan-belt heat shield, which is supposed to be attached to the alternator (i.e. on the offside) and protects the belt from the adjacent exhaust.

Apparently, the Factory are known for "forgetting" to fit them. They sent one down, free of charge, and it's now fitted.

Steve reckoned the poor state of the fan-belt was directly caused by this heat damage, and replaced that too (at Factory expense).

It occurs to me that perhaps there should also be one on the other side (i.e. the nearside), since the belt gets quite close to the exhaust there too. I see several heat shields in TMS's online parts thingie, but it's not clear what is what.

What do other people have?

cheers,
c.

Yes, one heatshield here, c/w TVR logo on the top.

They can get 'lost' during servicing, work on cooling system etc. When my car came back from an independent it had mysteriously 'moved' and was chafing the fan belt....

thanks; but where are yours? On the alternator (offside) and/or also on the nearside?

Just the nearside - it's fixed by two slots under the swirlpot. (No PAS)

Hi everyone

These heat shields were only fitted on one year of car, not before and not after and if the car has air con then it will have two, so not all cars have them. You can however have them fitted after market to any year car. We are looking into the price and availability of them at the moment, and will let you know. Chris and Ivan @ TMS

I almost thought that that said "they were only fitted on one car a year."

Must have been 1997 then! Odd that they would fit them then stop doing so. Mine feels like thin asbestos but perhaps it's just GRP. However, for those suffereing heatshield withdrawal symptoms, it would simple enough to take a piece of aluminium about 6 x 12", cut two fixing slots and bend it to shape. I can post a pic of mine if anyone's interested.
