Cost of new Dash in 92 Griff?
Discussion
Anyone know what it would cost to replace the wood veneer on the dash of my 92 Griff? Mine is so brittle bits break off even if you polish it!!
Not able to do it myself so would have to get a specialist to do it. Would prefer to keep it original, although would consider a leather one.

London Carriage Craft (Malcolm Hall) did a superb job of reveneering my 92 Griffith dash - better quality walnut veneer and the right glue - won't lift or crack again.
I removed my dash in about an hour and a half following Steve's advice in the 'bible' and carefully removed instruments, etc. It's not hard - just take your time. Use RoyalMail Special Delivery (£7) - turn around in about 10 days. Took me an hour to refit.
Cost £160 + VAT and P&P.

I bought a new wood veneer dash and heater control panel and fitted them myself cost of purchase was 120 gbp the work took me three daysand is not easy the heater panel being the worst , you will have to buy a new set of LEDs which are polarity conscinous. To remove the heater panel remove rear brake shoes , easier than trying to get under the little blighter at the hand-brake adjuster. Be careful what glue you use to fix the mounting studs to the steel back of the dash and make sure they are in the correct place!!As regards removing instructions refer to the bible

Thanks for all the useful tips chaps. That's what I like about this site - everyone so helpful - it is appreciated by idiots like me!!
However, I need to emphasise that when it comes to doing ANYTHING on the motor myself I'm one screwdriver short of a set of spanners (see what I mean!!)
So I would need to drive my Griff to a company, bye-bye, and return a day or so later to pick it up with a new/re-veneered dash.
Now then, what's THAT likely to cost? Will I need a 2nd mortgage or would it be cheaper to sell the car and buy one with a better dash!!!!?

DaveM - I assume that your '92 Griffith has the black heater panel, so no problems there.
If you ask your local TVR dealer or indie to remove/refit it for you they'll charge you £400+ IMO.
PS LCC supply dashes to the TVR dealers at same price but they usually stick 50-100% on top plus labour according to Malcolm Hall, LCC.
PPS Best advice is to talk to Malcolm Hall at LCC. He'll tell you what dealers he's supplied, etc.

Here's a thread to a covered dash, not kept original..
But the green matches the interior panels & carpet so doesn't look out of place IMHO..

Dave,
Hope that wasn't the sticky stuff from Griff Growl.
Think you should go for the Cerbie. Plenty of room in the back so I hear!!
No, the sticky stuff is what I'm usually in!!
Do you think we should start a thread based on "How many (over)grown men can you get in the back of a Cerbie!!"

You wot? What have brake shoes [shoes? on a Griff?] got to do with the heater panel?
My 92 400 has got the black plastic heater control panel, which is split. Anyone know how much a new one costs?

I should have said brake "pads", removing these will allow you to put the hand brake lever into the near vertical position . It must be in this position to allow the centre consol to be removed. Once this is removed then you have access to the heater control panel .The other method is to get under the car not easy unless you have the use of a hydraulic lift and slack off the handbrake cable.
Replacing the brake "pads" you have to screw the pistons back in to obtain the necessary clearence to fit the "pads".
