Access is a problem and so is getting the nuts off if they haven't been copperslipped. Don't try forcing the manifold as it is likley to crack. Get an assortment of spanners including offsets and wierd shapes. Some people even cut and weld spanners to get the right access. You may also be wishing for the time when small children could be forced up chimneys cos small hands are almost essential. Some people swear by the undo the nuts from underneath approach but I think it all depends.

Just hope that a stud doesn't break cos that is when the fun really starts.

Hmm, that was an easy job getting the manifold off...not!!!

Steve thanks for the advice re welding up your own spanners, it worked a treat.

Now I need to find a supply of stainless steel gaskets, any ideas??

Tip to make it just a nadge easier with the stainless gaskets.

The bottom bolt holes can be opened into slots by nipping the bottom "loop" in half (good snips or nibbler needed, they're tough)...enables gaskets to drop into place and locate without having to fully remove lower fasteners or manifold (assuming all old gasket material removes easily....mine was burnt to a crisp and just fell out). Just a suggestion as getting the manifolds back into line and getting bolts to start properly can be a fiddle to say the least.

Doesn't adversely affect the sealing qualities around the port itself.

Thanks Pupp, I should have logged on before I started

One and a half hours to tighten ONE lousy bolt!!!

All in all the job took 6 hours from end to end an probably took 5 or 6 years off my life. Still the blast I had in the car once it was fixed was worth it in the end!!

Simon

NB anyone needs to borrow any special spanners to do this job just let me know, I made a few! The Landrover part number for the Stainless gaskets is ERR6733
