Found a slightly split bottom hose on my Griff - fitted a new length of TVR-approved hose (go to spares shop with old hose and 'acksaw) after dumping coolant all over garage floor...when filling the system back up, I could only get about 4 to 5 litres in - I've run the engine, no airlocks, expansion tank level is fine (2" from top and all that) and car doesn't overheat, all seems OK, but the bible says I should be able to get 15 litres in. The car is a precat, so doesn't have the second tank, but even so, I would have thought it would drink more - my manual doesn't give coolant capacity - what should it take?? Should I have turned car upside down to get every last drop out before refilling it??

Hmmm, in the bible it says my 4 litre car should hold 12 litres. I discovered like you that it only took about 6 litres to fill it. Luckily I mixed the coolant with the water before pouring it in (rather than adding the coolant first as suggested on the back of the container) so I didnt have any problems with the ratio of the mix. Like you, my temp seems ok and there dont appear to be any airlocks, but where the other 6 litres went I have no idea!

Nice one! A precat car must have half the coolant capacity of the 500's... which could be why the earlier cars seemed to get a reputation for hotter running or overheating - mine's never given me a problem though! As of Saturday, I'm waiting on a set of silicon hoses from ACT - the hose I've fitted today is a temporary measure until the 'real gear' arrives...

You are assuming that all the coolent came out...... and that there is no coolent left in the rest of the system.

As Steve says it is unlikely that all the coolant drained out, I remember when I changed the otter switch on my Griff a couple of years ago I just unscrewed to old one and popped the new one in without any coolant loss at all! Rich...
