Been toying with the idea of putting one on the Griff.

A) Will improve air flow

and

B) Will look a little different

What are your thoughts and is this legal?

It'll look sh1t!

Just get a smaller plate made up (but in the normal proportions), not legal but I've not had any trouble with it.

Just don't mount it to one side and create a

TVR Griffith EVO VII

the same as many misguided Metro/Corsa/Saxo owners try to do...

I agree. I was thinking of a central position.

I'm really amazed that a couple of you are adamant that it wont look good!

I've seen a few foreign Griffs with square plates and I thought they looked pretty cool.

Maybe I'll grow out of it?

I think even small but perfectly proportioned ones don't look as good as the originals - the only other option i would go for (if forced) is the stick on the nose cone jobbies - then at least it looks like it means business

Alternatively, get your cooling system sorted out. I have the Modwise 2-stage cooling kit on and now that the colder weather is here, am going to have to adjust it to get the engine running warmer - went all the way to the Griff Growl and back and didn't budge over 78 degrees!

Get a smaller plate or a stick on one if you are having problems. I am not aware of anyone hsving any real issues with these and the plod. If you are not having any actual problems then I would advise keeping the car legal (but then I am a wuss in that respect myself).

I've got a small front plate and was pulled over by the cops the first day i put it on!. Was also maybe because the typeface was non standard too. Had to take it to an MOT station with proper plates on, so just stuck the old ones over the top and then took them off after the MOT bloke said they were OK.

If you fancy your luck with Plod how about a stick-on plate on the bonnet, E-Typre style? Not strictly legal and you may need a respray to get it off though!

Motorcycles haven't needed front numberplates since 1975. We don't want them back, either. So keep schtum at the back, there, OK?

After track days I usually "forget" to put the plate back on. On one occasion I broke it and just left the plate in the boot for 3 weeks, the only reason I got a new one was because the missus likes the number plate and kept pestering me to replace it, otherwise I would have left it like that.

I don't think that a front plate carries the same penalty as the rear, the police just ask you to sort it out.

Edited to add; Oh yea, a square one will look s**t.

Plasticman is your list of cars for real? By the way, I had a VW Caddy (1.9SDi) in metalic blue with the electric pack, it was the best car I ever had for handbrake turns in my rugby club's gravel car park

Stuff the TVR, get a Caddy.
