I was polite. Honest I was...

So he passed it. But my biggest grin comes from the worksheet which has two comments:

- "there appears to be no internal door handles" and

- "the exhaust is loud"

Hehe!

C'mon folks - any other MOT howlers?

Crazy!!

Mind you I could imagine one failing for something sensible and practical in a safety related way, like "why aren't the lights bright enough"!!!

They'll be failing your ABS and traction control systems next!!!

You should try driving a Fiat Punto which is my second car. It has candles for headlamps and is truly scary.

Local garage failed my old E30 M3 for no side indicators even though it had been in the country for about 6 years. He tried to explain to me the best place to fit some
Needless to say I just went elsewhere.

Funy how they don't care that the speedo was in kmh?

Just remembered a better one, last year took my AH Sprite to several garages as they couldn't get it on the ramp 'cos its too low (modern bastard MOT stations!!) eventually found a Rover dealer with a low ramp, he couldn't slide the ramp jack from the front to the back of the car to check the wheel bearing play, it hit the exhaust. So he failed me, I said 'just turn the car round on the ramp, Doh!' but his reply 'no, I have to finish the test the way it started' I tried to argue but he wasn't having it. What a tosser! I thought having an old car earned some sympathy?

After doing the import the goverment checked my Griff exhaustive for road permission.
They forced me to get a towhook for the rear done.
Also they advised me for fixing it not to properly for not damaging the fragile frame while using!?!
Am I right, am I the only one with a rearside tow hook?
It was my 4th import car and none was test driven by them before.
But they went for a test drive this time although a right-hooker.
Came back after a 40 minutes drive with the famous big grin on.
I was worried about that extended test drive,
but as long as you get permission it´s worth that.
Obviously he enjoyed his drive, because he put the Griff high above the Viper he was testdriving a day before.

About 6 years ago I had an MG Meastro (aheem!..) as an everyday run around. The MOT the year before said "Advisory:surface rust under car" so I spent the day before the impending MOT under the car with a large can of black underbody sealent and a paint brush.

The next day the MOT guy advised me that I had a major oil leak under the car that had covered the underside.

An oil leak, with paint brush marks?

Few years ago (when I weas young and easily led and before I knew better)I had my then 350i serviced and MOT'd by a well known dealer in the North West after they offered to pick it up from Norfolk for free. ( I know - how could I be so gullible) They failed its MoT and, after 3 weeks and £1500 worth of "essential" work (I was not impressed), told me it would be having its re-test the next day. Imagine my surprise to be informed that it had failed the RE-TEST on "condition of front springs".

If anyone can explain how that happened (other than a rip-off) I'll buy them a pint!

Your replies reminded me of student days when I had a white mini.

On the way to its MOT, in the rain, a Nissan Sunny rammed me up the back. Sod it, I thought, might as well go for the MOT anyway.

The garage rang around 4 in the afternoon and said:

"do you want the good news? It passed on the front lights..."

It had failed on every other aspect of the test.

To make things worse it was my cousin's wedding and I had agreed to buy a hoover for their present. The car got me £50 as scrap. The new hoover was £90.
