One good thing I did discover today was what I thought was a failing lifter was actually an exhaust manifold gasket playing up due to a loose bolt. The tappety noise suddenly became accompanied by a whistling noise, which David Batty said was the gasket acting like a reed in a clarinet! A top bloke if ever there was one, always ready to give advice.

As for me.... I should have checked the by obvious!
