Hello I wonder if anyone can help. I am not the most technically minded person however yesterday in the rain (I think my car was sulking) the alarm went haywire. Driving along and it went of constantly but with just one single tone. The only way I managed to stop it was to disconnect the battery. My car is due to David Batty in the morning for a service and I dont want to drive all the way to guildford with the alarm sounding. Any help or advise woul be much appriciated.
Is there an easy way to disable the alarm if so please e-mail me direct. The car is 1997 with I think a Meta alrm system.

Ok, here we go...open the bonnette, in the nearside front corner, there is an alarm siren. Where the wire passes into the wing section, through a large rubber grommet, pull all the wire out until you find an in-line plastic/black conector. Pull it appart and dry it out, apply a little vaseline and replace all where you found it.
That is probably the most common problem, hope that does the trick

Once you’ve dried the sounder out, check it still works. I’ve had two replaced on my Griff, once the water got in they’d had it.

I now have a freezer bag over the sounder held on with an elastic band (which needs to be replaced every few months as it rots) and no problems for the best part of two years.

Cheers,

Simon.

Morning Seasider,

Removed number plate and it was like a new car. I wonder if DVLA want to buy it back.

This worked with the GEMINI alarm fitted to my car.. The cheif causes were damp and corrosion which causeing a short on the alarm circuit board. The trigger to the alarm going off was actually heat from the engine (don't ask me why I am not electrical engineer) . This ment that the alarm would only set once the car had cooled down..The solution was to take the alarm off its bracket's in the engine bay a remove the tiny screws which hold the caseing together. The End cover (with the siren in it) was then removed to expose the circuit board. The internals were all full of damp, this was dried out. The back of the circuit board was then lightly scrubbed with a tooth brush & alcholol. The alarm was then the put back together with some sealent smeared into the joints / holes to stop water getting in. The job was finished off application of some aluminium heat resistant tape around the outside caseing of the unit..has worked faultless since touch wood..

I have '93 500 of which has a problematic alarm to say the least. E.g if it is stalled sometimes it doesnt want to start straight away. Thus I have to go through a long sequence of resetting, sometimes takes 5 mins to restart ( embarrasing). The TVR alarm is apparently in the loom so not easy to get at. Any ideas would be most helpful as I hate being starnaded at busy Junctions. Cheers.
