I've a 92 Griff 4.3 with the standard (I assume) Bridgestone S01's.

Obviously S01's are no longer available and I was wondering what the best alternative is.

The previous owner had the car over 6 years and only did 1500 miles a year, hence the really old tyres.

....OLD!?

Since these S01 tyres were produced the next generation of S02 was born and now evolutionised to the new S03.The S02 was probably the best of the bunch but getting a bit scarce now.Havent tried S03's but their my next choice, maybe.

Then there's Toyo.I've tried these but didn't feel as confident as with the Bridgestones, the side wall seems softer which gave a slight wallow which was a bit scary.

Certain sizes of SO1 are still available - 215/50ZR 15s and 245/45ZR16s. SO2s are still available too but reserved for Porsches and Hondas - unless you insist!

Goodyear F1 GS-D3s seem to be the top UHP tyre at the moment. Toyo seem to be catching up very fast. Bridgestone have had three generations since your tyre; S02, S02PP(which more logically would have been called S03) and now S03PP but the latest one seems to be no more competitive than their F1 tyres at present.

Bruce,

I had the same dilema with my 4.3. See the following posting:

Hope this helps,

Dan.

Except the sprint boys are all breaking personal bests with the S03 and I have yet to see a Goodyear even in the paddock...

As us sprinters would sell our grandmothers or mothers if the deal was right to gain a bit of time, that does seem to say something doesn't it

Thanks guys.

I had SO2's on my S1 Elise (after the aweful Pirreli P0's). I found them great in both the wet and dry.

I can't remember what was on the Chimeara that I had.

But my S2 Elise came with Bridgestone REO40's, which I found to be fantastic.

I quess it'll be S03's that I'll be going for this time round.

No F1s in the TVR paddock means conservative drivers and no comparison. Your only true test is to try some yourself...you might even like them. I know its hard to accept that Bridgestone are no longer the market leader, look at Ferrari.

If you need to be successful in the F1 market, then Goodyear have not been there for some time and maybe we should all be using Michelins...

I wasn't referring to just the TVRs but the whole paddock which ranges from saloons to single seaters.

They switched very quickly from Yokos when the S02s came out and started to blitz them so they are not that conservative. Considering Goodyears are cheaper and sprinters tend to get through them quickly you would have thought that would have tempted someone to try them but doesn't appear that way.

As for me. No need still have a stock of S02s I am going through and for competition use, I use Avon slicks or Dunlop cuts slicks.

Anyway each to their own.
