What is the best mix of anti freeze to water to use in a 4.3pre cat. I have heard lots of different ideas, the latest being dont use anti freeze in the summer months as it has poor cooling propeties. And try and use a mix of 70% water 30% anti freeze during winter.

You need antifreeze all year round to prevent corrosion as the engine has a lot of alloy bits. Mix should be sufficient on the cold temps that the car will experience. TVR recommend 33%.

I don’t have my handbook with me, but I’m sure for my Griff 500 TVR state 50:50. I have always thought this a bit much, but my cooling system works fine.

Do not us water only except in a real emergency, the anti freeze is a corrosion inhibitor and for an all alloy engine is vitally important.

Cheers,

Simon.

I use 20% antifreeze in the summer + water wetter (which has its own anti corrosion agents). When I top up through the autumn and into winter I use pure antifreeze to get the concentrations up and then drain and re-fill in the spring with 20% + water wetter....
