I knew the answer would arrive eventually. A metre of anodised aluminium 'U' section 8x13.5mm (£3.72 from B&Q), a fretsaw and lots of Araldite - and at long last that bouncy horizontal bar is bouncy no more! Hurrah!

I fitted one of David Beer's telescopic bonnet stays and would certainly recommend it.It's a simple solution that works very well.

Spent a happy hour or so moving the lower point of the strut to behind the expansion tank. There's less strain on it now that it's vertical. Made a nice ally bracket which can easily be removed if the next owner doesn't like it.

No, this is for real! In 3 sexy dimensions of shiny aluminium.

I guess you check your oil through a handy hole drilled in the bonnet? (Cool, next idea)
I do pop into Essex meets sometimes so if you see a silver Griff (R-reg not P-reg: I have a rival!) come and say hello.

Oil??? Seriously though, it's been a top reliable car. New exhaust gasket and that's been about it. Ok, so it needs a new fuel pipe and the starter gets a bit sticky when hot, the heater controls a bit of a mystery but nothing that serious all said and done. Not spotted a silver R reg, seen a P218(???), a green N reg, a mauvish N500(???), a black K50 S?Y)(with bonnet up) and a dark blue ??????. Bit common really, might get meself a trabby. Mines a dark blue P reg with flames(painted except when fuel pipe leaking) going down the side.
