Hot under pressure
Discussion
Did I get a shock yesterday or what ? Parking the car on the drive when all of a sudden there’s a big cloud of white smoke from the bonnet, well so I thought.
I turned of the ignition immediately and pops the bonnet. It turns out the header tank cap has discharged a cup full of hot water onto the minging hot exhaust. This produced a cloud of steam scaring the cr@p out of me.
I checked the coolant level when cold and it is about 2” below the thread on the cap. Must have been filled to the brim with no space for expansion and just blew it’s top.
Notice there is a small crack on the side of the cap. Is this a normal Rover replacement part ? Looks fairly standard to me but I don’t for one minute think Halfords will be knowledgeable about this.

We've covered this already haven't we!!! Mine works best about 1/2 inch below halfway. Any more than that and it dribbles out on the drive, thgouh I've never found out where from.
