lost petrol cap

hi all,
stupidly forgot my petrol cap at a petrol station, will check there later tonight. are there any problems with running it without. there seems to be a flap that is sprung, so no petrol going anywhere. just driven 20 odd miles today and no problem.
any advice

Do you know, I nearly said that last night then decided not to....

(plus you can only see it when the boot's open, which is not very often)

well, i managed to get it back last night. it was still siting on top of the petrol pump
does run a bit better with it on .
