I am having problems with my starter circuit, the car won't start unless the battery is fully charged then only once or twice. On the third time the solenoid just bounces in and out.I gather this is either the starter not earthing properly or a poor feed to the solenoid.I have had the battery checked and this is ok.I will have a good look at the weekend but in the meantime if I am out and it won't start is it possible to push start a Griff 4 ltr pre cat.

There is unfortunatly a problemm with the Solenoids sticking on The Griffths even more so with earlier ones. This normally happens when very hot and i believe is caused through Heatsoak. It happens now and again to start with tehn progessively gets worse.
An recon is cheapest option, even though it is possible for these not to last to long.
Some people have Re-con there own and have had successful results, basicaly giving the armatuers a good clean solenoid and changing the brushes.
I recently enquired at a Land Rover Garage the price for a new solenoid for my Starter and they Quoted £72 for it and £23 for the Brushes including the Holder.
When i asked how much for the whole Starter motor they said they didnt do them anymore and were waiting for a replacement. It would of been £360.
Teh one i have on now has stuck once but not since i seperatly run an earth from the holding bolt to the chassis earth.( may of helped i will wait an see)

Also a good smack will help u on your way

Yes it is possilble to push start a griff, just make sure you have the ignition on, fuel pump 'primed' and alarm/imobiliser off, try using 2nd gear. Make sure the person behind does not push on the boot lid.

Yeah, I bump started mine the other day from second gear after I left the lights on. It was on flat ground and didnt need much of a push.

Battery dropping to 7 V proves the battery is underspecced, flat or knackered.
