Diff oil leak

Got a slight oil leak from the diff. Is it likely that I'll need seals replaced? Is this a possible job for a competent DIY'er?

Sometimes the diff "breathes" oil out if it has been filled up too high and got very hot. How long since the last service and has it had any unusually intense activity lately?

Last service was 3500 miles ago. At the end of the service sheet it has the note 'Slight oil leak from diff' and also mentions that some bushes are going a bit soft and may need replacing soon.

When I bought my griff I had it had recently been serviced by a main dealer who wrote on the service details that a new diff was required due to a leak!!

I got David Battey to have a look under the car & he said it was just weeping & not to worry. he also said that if he replaced the seals the chances were it would still loose oil, sound advice. It leaves spots on the garage floor but if thats all you have I wouldnt worry.

Agreed. The diff will soon tell you it needs replacing, giving you plenty of warning, ususally - and Dave Batty did an excellent job on changing mine last month!

Or alternatively the limited slip will have limited effectiveness as on my car. How much was it to change out of interest?
