Non TVR speed sensor, supplier req'd ?
Discussion
The Speed Transducer mounted near the diff on my 96 Griff 500 has packed up again after 7 months.
Don't fancy another one from TVR for £47+vat
Is there an alternative supplier ?
The old one has a reference No on it of Z80081 with a red & a black wire !
SEEMS ITS A POPULAR PART TO FAIL !

The sensors I use on the 520 are very good but are almost double the price you have quoted. There is also the small matter of the electrical interface and whether it will work with the speedo. The mounts would also need to be changed. The TVR price seems very good to me.
To be honest this is the first time I have heard the comment that they are a common failure.

If this is the road speed sensor for the speedo that you are talking about, I found that they can be difficult to get hold of. I had to change mine a couple of weeks ago and discovered that they are on back order at TVR with an estimated delivery date of "Sometime in early September when everyones back from holiday".
Steve, I thought that Speedo/Road Speed Sensor problems were quite common on Griffs/Chimaeras?

Define what is common....
It is such a loose term. This site also distorts the facts as people rarely post messages that my speedo worked to day. All it takes is several people to post a similar problem for it to be interpreted as a major issue. QED It must be common.
In the past year, the most common problem with these cars seems to be the driver judging from the accident statistics.

For the 4.3 there are two different versions, one
version give 4 pulses per rotation, the other gives 8 pulses per rotation.
I started of with the idea that this must be a standard Rover part, so therefore one should be able to by one at your local Rover dealer..... Boy was i wrong...
Lets start with some info about the sensor:
The color of the zahnrad (dunno English word) gives you the ammount of teeth it has, this is important. There are three different versions !
The different versions are as follows:
Rover partnumber
DRC8172 20 teeth orange zahnrad (this the one i got)
DRC8173 22 teeth red zahnrad
DRC8174 23 teeth black zahnrad
If you manage to find the right version with a Rover dealer then there is the following:
TVR uses a version with 4 pulses per rotation with most cars, butt not all.....
When i bought the Rover part that looked exactly like the TVR part, honest
you could not tell the difference, and installed it. I managed to go from 0 to 100 km/h in about 2 seconds..... The Rover part gave 8 pulses per rotation,
thus making my car go twice as fast. BUMMER
I could not find a version with 4 pulses per rotation with a Rover dealer, if any of you do, please give me the part number for the next time.
SO i had to pay deer money to the Nimag (Dutch dealer) to get a proper TVR speedsensor..
After installing all my problems were solved, even the sometimes staling when you come of the throttle and pressing the clutch approaching a roundabout for instance. (have to reset the ECU, same as when you cleaned the stepper motor)
As it turnes out when the computer does not receive a speedsensor signal for a certain ammount of time the ECU goes into save mode, wich give you poor performance.
