Does anyone have or know of anywhere I can get hold of the build dates for griff 500's ? My car was registered on 15th October 1993. Having just read Steve Heaths book on when Griffs and Chims were built etc. I am thinking mine must be one of the earliest 500's. Other clues are that it is pre-serp and has the older, smaller, upside down instrument clocks as per pre 500's and when the car was at TVR power earlier in the year, the slight knocking on start up from cold , would indicate the car has the earlier design of pistons, with a shorter skirt. Any info would be interesting.

IIRC the first were built july/August 93, Steve will confirm.

I sold the number 88 and was told that no more orders we to be taken after that and it turned up five days before 02 plate April 2002.

Some dealers ordered stock ones and I think a couple more were made on the QT after the original ones were written off.

Yep. As Aug 1 was new reg day as well there was a huge registration blip. Oct 93 is an early car but not that early. Probably midway in the 93 production.

If its any help - my Griff has a date stamp ontop of the front lower chassis crossmember (visible with the bonnet open) Mines dated 13/09/96 - Friday the 13th!

Must have some bearing on when the car was assembled?

Cheers guys. Just had a quick look and there's no build date on the lower chassis crossmember. The chassis number ends with G011576. What's yours neilmac ? It won't give an exact date but if yours was regestered on 13th Sept, it'll give me a better idea.

13th Sept 1996 is 3 years AFTER your car.

The chassis numbers are also misleading as the are sequential for all cars made, including Chims, and S series cars.
