I have 16" rims on the front of my Griff although the handbook says they should be 15". They are as supplied when the car was new which I see from the bible was the case with the last few cars. (The factory had probably run out of 15")

I would like to fit some decent uprated brakes and thought that I could therefore do this without having to change the rims and therefore so much £££'s. Can anyone confirm this and if so recommend some good options and whether it's worth it.

Thanks

You may have seen the brake upgrade q' I posted earlier. Seems to me the upgrade route involves new drilled and/or grooved discs all round, the fronts changed for larger 285mm or even 300mm discs and the front callipers changed to 4 pot ones by Wilwood, Hi-spec or AP Racing (the "TVR" ones). Pads changed (front & rear) to Ferodo, Mintex or EBC Greenstuff depending on your preference.

Big question is how this will affect balance between front and back but others' experience says 285mm on the front is a good match for the existing rears. Any bigger may mean you should upgrade the rears also. Hope this helps.

285's move the balance forward and nothing else needs to be done. The braking is order of magnitude better and works extremely well. I've been out for 30 minute sessions on track at Silverstone with no fade or problems and I reckon for most drivers it is more than adequate.

Beyond 285 you start getting into the law of diminishing returns and potential balance problems where the rears will need upgrading as well is expensive because of the mechanical handbrake that has to be fitted.

Do you think the factory upgrade is balanced?
and i would appreciate "your views" on how it will effect 2nd hand value/attract or push away buyer.

Yes because the rears are upgraded as well. As for future value... hard to say. It does make the car modified and that might put people (and insurers!) off but it will have better braking so that may attract people... the cost of replacement pads and discs will be higher which again could be seen as negative.

Most people want that upgrade because they like the looks of the 16 inch Tuscans. In the end, it is personal taste.

I went for 310mm with 4 pot at the front (16" wheel) and 300mm with original callipers at the back, all from Hispec.
Must say the braking power is enormous, no fade at all (track) and the feel is way better. The faster you drive, the bigger the advantage. On the track they are perfect! They need a bit of warmth to operate optimally (but still brake good enough when entirely cold).
