factory spider/brake upgrades
Discussion
Had it done on my Chimaera mid July. Haven't any pics but looks much better and brakes are more efficient. Took them about 8 hours but mine was the first so be quicker as do more. Cost was £1800 as £1399 does not include fitting. I did not keep old wheels but Dom at TVR Power told me can get rid of the old wheels easily as hard to come by now.
It had me fooled. I've just checked the piece on it in Sprint and it says '...the factory estimate it will take 4 or 5 hours to fit... price of all this? An amazing £1399 inc VAT.'
So the implication is that it includes fitting, but if you read it again it means £1399 is the price of the *kit*. Hence yes, all the bits but no fitting. Sill good though!

Mine was at GOTG for all to see. it was the second customer car to be done, and the First Griff.. I like the looks, and as i had bent a couple of rims and also needed 4 new tyres the kit was excelent value, took about 8 hours to fit..so the total cost is arround £1800. no picies but I could go out an take a few if someone wants to put them up for all to veiw..
basically no one has had 16" spiders on the tamora for about 6 months, so they have a shed full.
new brake discs all round (5 stud)
remachined hubs (new for first 10)
new bearings
new 4 pot APs front
new spiders and toyos
225/245
spiders available in siver and anthracite
...mine due in 2 weeks
does not include fitting, still VERY GOOD VALUE

To be honest if you work out what you are getting in the kit, the wheels and tyres if not free are effectively VERY cheep, the point from TVR is that they wish to get rid of the Wheels hence the kit and its price.. One small thing not to forget is that (may no be all that clear on the pictures) the kit converts the car to a 5 stud hub, so new wheels WILL be required anyway.
The kit is in Anthracite or silver, from speaking to the factory it would seem that there are only around 10 sets in Anthracite.
I think I am going to go for this...a couple of questions though if anyone knows the answers:
1) What spec/size rear discs/calipers are fitted?
2) How much better are the brakes compared to standard fitment (lots I presume)?
3) I presume that TVR will deliver to me (or rather my local independent) for him to fit?
4) Has anyone got more pictures of them on a Chimaera?
5) Has anyone who has had this done told their insurance company? Did if affect the premium?
Cheers

the calipers are the original ones, new disks are fitted on the same size, but with the 5 stud hubs.

Have not done that many miles yet so tyres breaks are not bedded in yet, BUT I do like it. breaks fell better an perhaps a little more progressive, anf the Toyos feel good so far, softer than the S03s if anything..

You have to pay TVR for the kit, they will send it toy you/your prefered dealer. then you have tyo pay the dealer for the fitting. there is a £360 surcharge in adidition to the kit cost, as there are 6 items to be returnd to TVR form the car. any items not returned, damaged or not reusable will cost an aditional £60 per item (they will refund the difference)

Changing insurers cos mine bunck a compleete FCUK Whitts so have not idea. but I have spoken to a few new insurers and they had no problems, as it was a FACTORY mod, and mine was done for reasons other than i liked it (i bent the old wheels) and also its the breaks not the engine first...
