With all the summer miles being clocked, I'm spending more time on the forecourt filling up with motion lotion. The frustration is the time it takes to fill up the tank 'cause unless you trickle the petrol in the pump cuts off, or worse shoots petrol back up! Result is it takes a good five minutes to fill the tank - boring.

I can't find this problem referred to in the 'bible' and wondered if it's unique to my Griff ?

I'd appreciate anyone confirming either way, or even better if there's a fix.

Thanks

Dont have this problem - fills in 1 min. Try rotating the nozzle (90 / 180 deg) so it sits in the filler neck at a different angle

No problem here, i just leave the filler in until it swithes off automaticly. Never spilled a drop. Can't afford to either, petrol over here is very expensive. About 0.85 pounds per liter unleaded 98 ron.

Thanks for the feedback. Guess this is not a general Griff quirk then. I have tried different angles and also how far I've inserted it (enough of my sex life) but makes no difference.

Mine's fine too. Some pumps can be a bit tricky and seem to foam up a bit. I can only suggest that instead of blasting it down the middle, pull the nozzle back out a little way, tilt it at an angle and try to get the fuel to spiral round the inside of the filler - a bit like bathwater down a plughole - so the air gets up the middle.

my 99 griff has same problem, no amount of twisting/positioning of the petrol nozzle makes any difference.

mine only does this 'stunt' with some pumps, it does seem to be dependant on the rate at which the pump outputs fuel.. rotating the nozle does seem to help.

I only use Optimax, and always have the same problem. I have noticed that the degree of problemness does vary from pump to pump, but not necessarily at the rate of filling.

The best solution I have come up with is to put the nozzle in, then pull it back out such that the lip of the filler spout catches in the slight indent half way down the nozzle - so to speak. That way, the flap inside the filler spout is pushed down, but the nozzle is still quite a way out of the filler spout so it shouldn't click off as often. It's actually much easier than it sounds.
