I want to fit Griff alloys to my 450 Chimaera. Does any body know of any problems doing this. I know they are fitted standard to the 500. The tyre size is slightly bigger I know.
The reason I am thinking of this is one of my front wheel has been damaged, it has an outward dent if you see what I mean. I am not sure if this could be repaired or should I just go for the 500 wheels.
Does any body have a set for sale?

It is possible to repair alloys, ask a local tyre place and they should be able to recommend someone who could say if it is worth fixing or not. There are some Griff wheels for sale in Sprint I think, £175. Wouldn't surprise me if they are sold now as when I scouted around for some last month I had no joy.
If all else fails do what I did, try your dealer, mine can supply refurbed Chim 5 spokes for £85. When I mentioned all this to a few girls I know they all preferred the 5 spokes to the Griff wheels, a consolation perhaps!!
Hope this helps,
Chris (+ Paradise Purple Chim 450)

If you do decide to go for it and want to sell the old rears, let me know?

Cheers,

If the Chim I eventually buy isn't a 5 litre and has the 500 wheels on, I'll be selling them as I prefer the five spokes and will gladly swap with someone.

This damage to your alloys has nothing to do with accelerating too fast out of roundabouts whilst being followed by another griff or chimp owner?

Beware this has been done by a couple of guys at the TVRHants car club and has had poor results. Unless you have money to burn stay with the original fitments.

Why would that be then? As long as they are of the same size and off-set there should be no difference.

When I bought mine they gave me the choice of the Griff or the Chim wheels.

They said they would be exactly the same and would only involve getting them off one and putting them on another.

On that basis, it should be simple I reckon.

Matt.

I'm looking at a 4l tomorrow that has Griff alloys and I don't really like them, so if I buy it I'd be looking at changing them fairly soon. If you can hang on a bit we may be able to sort something out?

For sale, 1995 BMW 318is M Tech. www.pistonheads.com/ads/adverts.asp?s=132
