my 4.0 griff is off to v8 this sat for a new lease of life. plan is for polished and ported stage 3 heads, cam and full new induction system. expected increase of around 40-50 bhp cant wait. anyone else had this work done and what were the results!
+ 35 BHP if memory serves, when I had my old engine done.
Have fitted their heads to my 4.0L, i recon they alone are worth 20 bhp, with ported inlet and a serious cam maybe solid lifter you could see 40 + bhp, good luck with that, i'm always chuffed to see 4.0L engines being upgraded, believe me you won't regret it, although you won't achieve as much torque as the larger motors they have "bags" of charactor.

What sort of upgrades can be carried out to the 5.0litre engine.
Polished & ported Heads ( is that the same as gas flowed ) ??
Cam ??
Induction ??
& the likely BHP/ Torque increases
In this order of importance
1 tornado chip
2 Cam upgrade (won't work properly without chip) +20bhp & torque
3 trumpets (to replace horrible steel tubes) + extra 5-8 bhp & torque
4 enlarged plenum. ( for better response and a couple of bhp)
5 heads, yes you can fit better heads , but the TVR500 heads are already fully ported with big valves, (although slightly over ported)
Hope this helps

I had mine on Power Engineerings Rollers yesterday and with an ambient of 35 degrees, the little beauty was banging out 300 lb/ft, 200 of that comes in at 1400 rpm, it is seriously quick now.
I could only get 275bhp at 5546 rpm but it was staggeringly hot with the fuel at 55 degrees and engine at 100 degrees. The verdict was that the car was one of the strongest they've seen without major fettling and they want me to go back for a power test on a cooler day.
edited to add Paul Brettle was with me and seemed impressed too

Impressed - not arf... Christ almighty, its bloody quick, and what you fail to mention was that the chap from Power Engineering almost fell off his chair (in a way, seeing as there was only one chair and he wasnt sat on it), but something like 280 lb/ft torque at 1400 RPM... that is damn stunning and easily noticable..
To say that the engine is VERY tractible with instant throttle response and ooodddllleess of mid-range is an underestimation. My 4.0HC Chimaera is nice rev'y engine, but the difference to a 5.0 is pretty big... the difference to yours Pete is huge....
If only we all had the ability to have the upgrades. Life would truely be sweet.
Cheers,
Paul
P.S. Pete, you must have a run out in mine - you just wont believe the difference to a boggo motor....
