Odometer misbehaveing

The odometer (LCD type)on my 95 Griff 500 as recently taken to resetting it's self to zero every time the engine is restarted any thoughts? or is it delivery mileage for ever?

just checked out your original posting so its just a watch battery guess, its time to pull the dash to bits least it'll stop me driving in this crap weather untill its back in one piece
