Griffith Air Conditioning
Discussion
As it's got the manual air con most people are quite happy without.
For some reason there's a "you've got to have a/c" mantra about Tuscan buying, but no one gets very excited about the Griff/Chimaera.
By all accounts the a/c isn't particularly effective (and needs servicing from time to time anywy) and is little defence against the blast of hot air that comes round the screen on that nice warm day when you are sitting in traffic

Agreed - very few Griffiths were built with air-con so I can't imagine it would be an issue for re-sale. True, the cars do get hot but most Griffiths have the roof off when it's not raining. Maybe Griff's were/are more often bought as second cars (as opposed to Chimaeras bought as only/main cars - implying the need to use it dressed in a suit and tie with the roof on). Incidentally, I just spent some time re-adjusting the hot/cold water flow valve and I can now get cold air - whoopie! Rich...
Beano - where the hell do you get all these smileys from?!!
I particulary like the flame throwing computer
...Oh, air conditioning? Pah! Power steering? Pah! Electric windows? er... oh yeah, I think I've got those somewhere... never use 'em mind you! Does anyone else wonder why people put the roof down and then ruin the lines of the car by keeping the side windows up?

Try it. It reduces wind noise at speed. Not only that, it stops large flying things with stingy tails from being sucked into your face and landing in a presumably bad mood on your genitals.

Personally I find having A/C makes a BIG difference, especially sitting in traffic on a hot day. The standard Griff A/C is not the most powerful of systems but I don't think it deserves its cranky reputation, you just have to look after it like everything else on a Griff. Actually the A/C's a godsend when you're living in a country where average summer ambient temps make it impossible to go topless apart from early morning & late evening.

I just fitted another set of speakers and a big amplifier
Nice looking car Ian - what colour? is it black or a really deep purple? (now there's a band for you!)
Always have the windows down when the roof's off because I agree that it does ruin the look when you have them up.
This leads to meaty arguments when the missus is in the passenger seats though. "The wind's ruining my hair" is the usual excuse. So if you ever see an Imperial Blue griff in Sussex with the passenger window up and the driver one down and the occupants looking annoyed with each other, that's probably me and her!!!!

I think aircon is more justified in hotter countries where you might fry with the roof off, but in our modest summers - well - that's why we take the roofs off isn't it? And with the roof of there's no point in having aircon, unless you want to try cooling the whole world down... conversely if your roof is on it must be a cold day so you wouldn't want aircon either!!!
Question: Aircon in cars seems to be very fickle - needs recharging every 3 years, very expensive to fix if it breaks down etc - yet for under £200 you can buy an entire domestic freezer that works perfectly for 10+ years. Why can't they just take freezer parts and make car aircon out of that?
