Though the subject of insurance renewal has been discussed previously on this site. I am in a predicament which I need advise with.

I have had my Porsche 968 declared a total loss (single vehicle accident, no other party involved)) and I am in negotiations with Highway Insurance (HIC is my broker) re a settlement figure. I now need a replacement car and have decided that a Griff 500 would meet my requirements.

Given that I have lost my NCB but have had 12 years claim free driving, can anyone advise me of insurance companies who would insure me at a reasonable premium?

Has anyone renewed insurance following a claim such as mine and lived to tell the tale?

I am 29, paid £687 fully comp for 6000mls pa and had 1yr NCB (My cars previous to this were on Classic policies hence limited NCB).

My Broker now tells me that my premium will be £1800-1900 with the same insurer!

Help Please!

I use Classic Line on 01455 639000 give em a call, they can tailor it to your needs, let us know how you get on, i have just done a claim through them and they where excellent and a pleasure which is strange for an insurance comp

Thanks for the info. I gave Classic Line a call but they can't help me because I don't have a years claim free driving in the last year. My previously clean 12 year record didn't count.

Any other ideas, anyone?

I was in a similar position this time last year.

My Chimaera in a Single vehicle accident, total loss, £18K payed out on insurance.

At the time i was 29, 2 years NCB having not had a car for 3 years previously.

My insures at the time wanted to up my unlimited mileage policy from £1200 to £2400, so said no thanks.

Went to Sunninghill for £1400 including 3 motoring convictions.

As my insurance is now due for renenwal on my Tuscan, i did some looking around adjusting my quote info and found the claim has no effect on the quote what so ever, it is the fact it is a TVR and group 20 that ups the price.

Some insurance companies i have found won't even insure Tuscans, but will Griffs, Chims, Cerbs, Tams and T350's.

My best quote this year is £1800 unlimited mileage with a boggo broekr on the net that i cannot remember.

Thanks for your response Simon.

My first question to Sunninghill was:

"Will you insure me having made a claim in the last 3 months?"

Answer: "no..."

So the hunt continues...

'Reasonable' could be an interesting exercise. Try www.confused.com. This is a search engine that covers about 95% of the insurance providers. This should give you a figure to aim at (or conversely scare you senseless). Given the Griff, most companies will want 2 years NCD, so could be a problem getting a quote.

2 companies recommended to me were Footman James and Adrian Flux - don't have contact numbers for either of them.

Norwich Union insure TVR's at a reasonable rate - but you may have a problem given the accident. It is probably worth approaching your classic car insurers for confirmation of previous insurance history - this could be used by a broker to get you a decent quote.

Apologies for rambling and good luck.

You could try Sunninghill Insurance.

Martin, I tried Sunninghill but but they weren't interested. I've made a claim this year, so they won't insure me.

However, a glimmer of hope has appeared though not regards Griff insurance.

Firebond Insurance who I have used a number of years ago are willing to insure a replacement Porsche 968 of 1993 vintage on classic insurance for £514 fully comp, 6000 miles pa, no NCB and car kept on drive!

It is my safety net but like all you guys I would like to enter TVR ownership rather than continue with my 'Porkers'

Please keep the advice coming...

Many Thanks.

You could call Norton on 0121 246 5050. They seem to be an oddball outfit so you never know...

I had one fault and one no fault claim last year and was told that it would up my premium by about 25%. Then Mannings sent through a quote 250% up on last year's. To be fair, they said that only 15% of that was due to the claim, the rest was a "price restructuring".

I've yet to find anyone who isn't cheaper than their quote, and in the end went with Direct Line, who were barely more expensive than last year's Mannings quote, and also include business use. Try them.

On the subject, has anyone else asked Mannings to send out their NCD proof, had it not turn up and been asked to fork out £15 for a duplicate?

I found Mannings rude and unhelpful, when I phoned them.

I can't see the point of The TVR CLub supporting an insurance company that won't insure anyone, unless they have at least a year's experience behind the wheel of a TVR.

i eventually went with Norwich union, 9 yrs ncd, 3 points, 8k miles, £940. I was going with A-quote at £740 but after many conflicting phone calls, they said i needed tracker. I feel slightly better knowing i've gone with a bigger company.
