When changing the oil ...
... and filter is there a way to ensure that the pump will not drain completely and require priming? I've read the bible and Steve says to make sure you don't hang about, so how critical is the delay between draining and re-filling?

Its not a split second sort of thing. Just don't wander off and have a cup of tea, chat on the phone, log on to PH before re-filling it.
Have your oil and new filter to hand then just do it in sequence - once the old oil stops coming out, away you go.
