I used to own a superb '95 Griff 500 and have always regretted selling it. I now want to buy another but my budget is not quite in good 500 territory so I am seriously considering a pre-cat Griff. Ideally I want a genuine 4.3BV but never see any for sale anywhere. I assume they go at a premium over the 4.0/4.3's but why? How much better are they?

Any help greatfully received.

p.s. whats the score on fuel nowadays on the pre-cats?

drove a pal's a long time back & it was pretty much 500 quick but 1000 times louder. Responded nicely to the throttle too.

I had a 500 and later a 12K dealer supplied BV.

The BV sounded nice, if not quite as deep as my de silenced 500

performance wise the 500 felt as if it had a lot of shove low down compared to the BV.

one point, do not take any badges in to account under the bonnet (they cost £2.50) if you call TVR Power they can check the engine serial number.

they reckon there is only 10-15bhp in it between a BV and a normal 4.3 - and that most 4.3's went out with the BV head

hope this is useful

Thanks.

The 500's 320lb torque would account for the low end shove

Thing is a decent BV is so rare thesedays I may be as well to get another 500 for the same price. Trouble is I want to steer clear of any 500 pre '94 if possible as they changed the dash/engine slightly after that.

Ho hum what to do....
