Whilst holidaying in Cornwall with friends, we parked down a dead end road in the middle of nowhere - so we could go for a cliff-top walk in the sunshine. There were 3 cars in all (Griff and 2 VWs).

Imagine our surprise when we returned some 4 hours later to discover that all our passenger wing mirrors had been kicked off (clear footprints on mine!), and the rear lights of one of the VWs had been kicked in.

Annoyingly, my mirror swung down and has caused a 3 inch scratch on the door...
Have had mirror stuck back on by local specialist, but not sure about the scratch - have been advised that it would be best to respray whole door (£200-ish). Is it worth speaking to a paint shop person, or should I get it done by the TVR specialist (I'm assuming that a dealer will be far more expensive)?

The local farmer ("stop asking him that, Withnail. Of course he's the ing farmer!") said that this happens quite a lot round there (nr Delabole, Wadebridge). "Oo-ar, that'll be the local kids". And having driven through Delabole, I can see what he means - what a hell-hole.

Luckily, they'd gone before I got back with my friends. I expect it would be hard for them to cause trouble if all their fingers were broken.

Their fingers probably were already broken by last victim - that's why they used their feet. Break their feet and they'd use their heads. Who said Adolf was wrong?

Ha ha!

Scratch isn't too deep, although I haven't really had a proper look at it to be honest - haven't really had a chance...will investigate further this weekend.

depends where you are but try your local 'chips away' franchise. They did some work on my Cerby and were absolutely superb....

I thought Wadebridge was full of old fts.

My parents traded in a car to a Ford dealer there and there was this dear in about her late 60's/70's who walked through, looked like a cleaner.

When the salesman went to get the cheque signed, he took it to this little old lady, who signed it, she was only the owner of the dealership

In my bank days, the Wadebridge branch always did really well with Independant Advice business, because they were mostly retired people there.

See what your dealer can do about the scratches. I aquired three parallel ones between the front wheelarch and the door aperture - one was quite deep. Took it to Fernhurst expecting 'That'll be a front end respray, Sir' but it wasn't. They took it away and 15 mins later it's back, literally without a mark on it! Apparently they were able to heat the paint to soften it, the move it into the scratch. NOT one to try at home though, I suspect.
