If you can find one a good condition '92/'93 Griffith 4.3 pre-cat will be well within your budget. Almost as quick as a 500, but smoother, more economical and the best sounding Griffith. In my opinion.
Also qualifies for Classic/Agreed Value Insurance

Hi Kartman,

I was allways told to try and get the newest one you could afford(condition inc).

First by Steve Heaths The TVR Griffith and Chimaera.
www.tvrcc.com it has a wealth of info and tips on Buying.

You could even buy a very nice big wedge and have money to spare

I think you could get a tidy 94/95 Griff 500 for £15k privately. Might take a little legwork, but I'd be suprised if they go for more than that (very happy if they do, though!).

My mate has got a 4.3 and its alot slower than my 500 plus the brakes and handling are nowhere as good, and as for best sounding you have not heard a 500 without cats then.
The 4.3 is a great car but it is far from being a 500.

Each to their own guys. All Griffiths are superb, 400, 430, 450, 500, etc. With a Mark Adams chip and tight suspension, etc. a 4.3 pre-cat floats my boat. The rarity added to cheap insurance and better mpg all help as well. In unadulterated and legal form the 4.3 exhaust sounds the best though - in my opinion. Well within a £15K budget, even allows a bit for upgrades, etc.

You also might want to talk to Rob Ingleby at following link:

www.findasportscar.co.uk/

Speak to him, he is full of handy tips and pointers. I was after a particular 4.3 Pre-Cat and he found me a perfect one for 14k.

I'm a very happy man now.

And IMHO my 4.3 sounds far far better than any 500 I've ever heard....and its a damn site rarer :-)

As well as looking in the Bible I produced a check list from the EVO buying guide and added a few other pointers from other Griff owners. If you want I will send it to you via email (see my profile for email address).
