Having owned my pre-cat griff for 3 months now,(the cureton green one at Fernhurst's back in February if anyone saw it!)I have only one problem. Due to work commitments, the griff only gets a blast at weekends. Reversing out of the garage first thing on a Saturday morning results in a lot grinding of cogs when I try to engage reverse. Things are fine once the griff has warmed up. I assume this is because the oil is cold or is my gearbox about to expire!

Common problem with T5 boxes, not sure if it's the same for the SD1 box, but the trick is to go into 3rd or 5th before slipping it into reverse for a 'graunch' free experience.

Put the car into 1st then into reverse and all will be well.

It is temp related - original spec oil is PAS fluid I think, mines got heat wrap round exhaust near gearbox and has normal gear oil in it - 'orrible until it gets some heat in it - might be worth an oil change to see if yours improves - don't use slick50 gearbox treatment cos I've heard it doesn't do much for the synchromesh = graunchy/grouchier changes.
