starting my car car when hot(85-90) it runs ruff (around 400-600 revs) unless i hold the clutch down and put it in first and wait for a few seconds revs build up and away i go. That is not a problem but after this every now and again in first and second gear i get a thump noise from the rear of the car. this also happens but not very often when i turn the key fuel pump starts and just as it stops theres a thump. this even happens if car cools down to 70c while driving. but if left to cool down completely then started the car runs fine with no thumps at any temp.i thought it might be the tank not venting properly but if that is the case why doesn't it do it all the time?
any help will be greatly recived
thanks
ohh it's a 95 griff if it makes any differance

mmm. I get similar sometimes. When I start it up (from cold) the revs won't go below 1900 or so for 3/4 minutes...then they settle at 1000ish on idle. Admittedly this is the complete opposite to you....

Also have this 'thump' coming form the back of the car when changing gear, but only occasionally.

Should I be worried too?

That's a bit more worrying, it may just be normal drive line shunt, but it could be worn or loose diff mounts - which if left can lead to expensive damage.

Occasional thump from rear when changing gear = something loose in the boot, ie spare wheel. roof. wheel brace......
My Chimaera revs to about 1900 cold as well, until i get about quarter mile up the road. Won't pull away from cold with any throttle either.
Runs back to Chimaera house

Thump as fuel pump works/stops could be tank presssurising cos no air is getting let in thru tank breather. If griff had a back seat it would be t'motherinlaw...

I used to get a thump on accel/decceleration, got rid of the Smart wheel someone had left in there and it's fine now.
