After Anglesey I had no problems ... but after Folembray the brake fade on the Griffith was very evident ...

So which pads then ... I am not into changing disks etc currently and will upgrade to Dot 5 fluid obviously.

I used to use Pagid's in my S which were fantastic ... so what are people using in standard calipers ??

Cheers

I have recently put Ferodo DS 2500 on my Chimaera. It has DOT 5.1 fluid. The pads didn't fade at all on Saturday. They were smokin' when I came back to the pits once, but they still worked.

My problem is std disc/caliper sizes - the brakes aren't really any stronger with better pads in - they just work longer. I had to postpone a front brake upgrade to 285mm which should solve this (had to spend money on a new roof instead).

Peninsula supplied the pads BTW if you're lookin'.

I have the 285mm upgrade with Mintex 1144 pads F and R,
the Mintex 1144's work very well with reasonable bite when cold, getting stronger and stronger the hotter they get, they are quite dirty however creating alot of dust the wheels needing a good clean even after a relatively short drive.
Regarding the fluid make sure you use Dot5.1 and NOT Dot5 which is silicone based and is not compatible with Dot5.1,check the Demon Tweeks motorsport catalogue they carry a good selection of polyglycol based fluids, I've being using Motul RB 600 for the last couple of years with no problems.

They seem fine - 100% better than EBC Greenstuff which I had on the front before.

Glad I saw this thread on here today because I was going to post somthing similar myself as it feels like my pads are about to wear out and will need replacing sometime soon.

However, one of my problems is that I've had the car a while now and the brake discs have been upgraded by the previous owner to some cross drilled/grooved ones and I don't know if they've increased in size from the originals. The calipers themselves weren't changed so I wouldn't have thought there'd be much difference if the have?

Now you may have guessed that I know bugger all about discs etc so I'm trying to find out if I'll need to measure the discs to find out the size of them in order to get the right replacement pads. Or maybe because the calipers themselves haven't changed I can just order some pads that are intended for the standard discs?

Bit of a headache this!

Thanks in advance for any advice - Chris.

Hmm. Should have thought about that really, my Griff is a late 95N, best money I ever spent by the way.

Got the Griff/Chim bible at home as well Steve, congrats on an excellent book mate.

Cheers.

If the front callipers are on brackets then they are the same and you have bigger discs fitted. The good news is it will use standard Griff 500 pads to fit. The bible has the disc diameters so you can measure and chcek to see if the size is the same or whether just drilled/grooved discs have been fitted while you are at it.

Glad you liked the book.
