£550 Oil Pump!!
Discussion
I am rebuilding my 500 Serpentine engine at the moment and the oil pump is less than perfect, so I went to Land rover parts to enquire about a new one. They say only the pump c/w the front cover is available and the bargin price of £550 + VAT and that was trade.I made my excuses and had a quick nervous breakdown. Surely the pump and back plate must be available from another source. Has any one had a similar problem, if so where did they get a pump from. The pre serp is generally available at around £30, but not the one fitted in the later cars. It was originally used in the 4.6 Range Rover so I am led to believe. If a hi volume spurious on is made that would do the trick. All help gratefully accepted.

They may well be right. The Serp pump is built into the front cover and acording to my Rover build a V8 from bits of scrap metal book free with Shredded Wheat, the whole lot may need replacing as part of the pump is actually in the cover itself. Absolutely totally different from the pre-serp design.
Worth ringing around though.
