Worrying one this one - Was driving down the M6 on Wednesday and my Griff started to misfire/lose power on three seperate occassions. I pulled over each time and obviously turned the engine off. (After leaving it for 5 minutes, the car started up perfectly each time.)

There was a bad smell (Sulphur like) and on one occassion a small waft of smoke came through the dash in the stereo region.

Anyone had similar problem?

Sounds as if you may have a wiring short that is causing the insulation to melt and hence the smoke and smell. I would definitely take the dash out and look for damage.

Sounds like a wiring fault, losing power can be dangerous at the best of times but this could also be a fire hazard. If I were you I'd start by checking the connector to the ignition switch, that seems to be a common point of failure. If not that, then check the ECU and fuse wiring in the passenger footwell (brace yourself, that wiring loom ain't pretty). Failing that, I agree with Steve it's time to look behind the dash.

Steve, Peter : Do you think the puff of smoke is directly linked to the misfire ?

P.S : Steve, my missus bought me 'The Bible' for Easter. Could be good timing if the dash is coming out!
