As I'm about to get the master cylinder changed on my Griff 500 thought I would change the rubber flexis for the braided stainless type. Anyone got a contact to source, part number and price?

Is there a manufacturer I can contact who has braided hoses made to length for a Griff,as I have been told you have to get them made to measure using the old ones.

David,
Did they fit straight off without any other fittings if so this is a good price. What is the part no for a Griff 500? I have just been quoted 25 each for BF Goodridge.
For the master cylinder and servo I am told they are from TVR dealer only and cost about 65 + 80 + VAT?

Chrish,
Don't know part number but Automec had a listing for my Griff 500. Fitting very straight forward everything required in the box, you shouldn't have any problems

Hope this helps

I've found Rally Design www.raldes.co.uk to be considerably cheaper than everyone else for braided hoses, including Goodridge.
I got a set of 4 Goodridge hoses for just over £30 inc VAT, which ain't bad.
I would assume that they offer a custom hose service, so give them a call.

Was this for a Griff as that sounds cheap? I have ordered from Autolec now as per David's lead as they correct part nos. for a Griff and are Goodridge. I will get them fitted at the same time as doing the m/cyl and servos. Any thought on fluid type as I am sticking to DOT 4. The brakes are not used hard and I cant help wondering if thats why I have had all these brake problems?

Got my Goodridge hoses in the post in a couple of days. Did you have any probs of tips in fitting or straight unbolt and connect once the pipes are drained?
Did the brakes feel any different once fitted?

Don't bother with dot 4. Go for 5.1. Lot higher spec and less prone to boiling.

Chrish,
Yep bolt straight on, no problems. On the fronts though if the union from hose to pipe is very tight make sure you support both sides of the fixing where it goes through the chassis lug, it's easy to bend or possibly snap this. I went for DOT 5.1 too and all in all the brake pedal is now much firmer.
Hope it all works out okay and take a good look at the skin on you knuckles, you won't be seeing it agin for sometime.

I am replacing the master cylinder at the same time this weekend and struggling to get the reservoir off at this moment.
Do the front brake callipers have to come off in order to unscrew the old hose fitting and to screw on the new stainless pipe or can that be done at the pipe interface end where it connects with the chassis? The stainless hoses are rigid and don't have rotating joints at each end.The back has a banjo fitting to undo on the calliper and assume no probs in undoing the hose from the chassis mount?

Steve,
Used DOT 4 because it was plentiful and cheap. Just as well after all the fluid I have used as the master cylnder failed. How much fluid should be required about 1 litre seems enough? Can I use DOT 5 if there is still some DOT 4 in the system; as can't mix synthetic? If not sounds like a flush out.How much is DOT 5.1?

Chrish,
You can do the job withot removing the calipers, just remember to attach the hose to the caliper before the chassis/pipe. If you want to remove the calipers, fronts are just 2 socket head bolts (7mm I think) and rear 2, 13mm hex head bolts, it doesn't take long.

I bought some 5.1 yesterday from my local factor. £4.75 a litre. Significantly better than 4 so not worth skimping.

With a new system it may take a litre to get all the air out. You should not reuse so might be worth getting an extra bottle.

Current status is that two of the three master cylinder unions would not come off so had to cut the pipes. So I am tring to borrow a pipe belling tool this week and buy some new fittings possibly with flexi pipes to attach to the new m/cylinder before fitting onto the servo. BTW, there was fluid leaking at the servo end. Should I adjust the servo screw before fitting the m/cyl?
