I wondered if anyone had any idea's about a problem my 4.0 griff has developed. It has started cutting out intermittently below about 1500 rpm. It happens from cold but occurrs more frequently as the car warms up. It won't then bump start but does restart straight away on the key. It is making driving the car in traffic an absolute nightmare. Other than that the care runs fine. I have had a look at the dreaded stepper motor. It was quite dirty and the cone shapped bit would not move on the little spring. Is this normal?? I cleaned it as best I could but no improvement. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
I've only just had my stepper motor out for the first time and it wouldn't move at all on the springy bit - I don't think it's supposed to move unless electric is applied to it - as far as I'm aware it only moves in and out when the ecu tells it to sort the idle speed out ? - just as a test to see if it does anything I started the car with the plug off the back of the stepper - revs its nuts off - you could try that just to check its doing something when plugged in?
