Since I spent last weekend blasting around the streets of Dorset in the Griff it's now gone over 30,000 miles and was last serviced 11 months ago so it should be in need of a service soon but I've got a few queries first.

I've had it about five weeks and Rob Ingleby who found the car for me said I could wait until the autumn before getting it serviced instead of doing it bang on 12 months after it was last done, which was May last year. Incidentally it's only done 3,000 miles since the last service so it hasn't been over used, I'm more concerned about whether any future owners of the car would look upon a service interval of slightly more than 12 months as being too long/badly looked after?

Now I won't be doing many miles over the summer in it so am not bothered about that, it's just that what with already needing 4 new tyres (thank you Bruntingthorpe) and a holiday to pay for I could do without the cost of that as well!!

Lastly if it really should be serviced now how much would it cost with a waxoyl treatment for the chassis as well? I'm expecting somewhere in the region of £450 and was going to get David Batty to do it, has anyone on here ever used him and if so was he any good? He came strongly recommended so I'm expecting good things!

Many thanks - Chris

Hi Chris

If it were me I would get a £50 oil and filter job done somewhere recognised but independent (David Batty would be ideal) and then save the big service for the Autumn before the weather gets cold and the roads get salty.

Were I buying the car and looking back on the service history that would seem perfectly reasonable to me.

David Batty, PistonHead Pie and Black Tie Customer Care Award Winner 2002. All round good egg and legend within TVR servicing circles. He looked after my Chim and now looks after my Tuscan. Between him in the Souf and Joospeed in the North, there are no better.

An oil change would be all you need after 3000 miles. That is the only really degrading ingredient between services afaik.

I only had a starter motor fitted at David Batty but he seems very capable

Fernhurst have a very reasonable labour rate (or did) as an independent - in fact it was less than Batty when I had mine!

Dave Batty?

I've heard that name somewhere before

Ah - was there only yesterday! He is a very busy man at the moment (probably mostly because I keep going back for 6000 mile services every other month!) and working every hour of the day, but he should be ideal.

Am having the sort of maintenance work you might expect on a 70,000 mile car (i.e. expensive things!) but I am confident that he'll be doing me a brilliant job...

...and it's running really nicely today!! Woohoo!

(Damn people changing their aliases...mumble...grumble...don't know who these people are...)

Here - and don't tell everyone - but David has only gone and got a Tuscan because of you, David.

Hmm - too many David's around here!

Might have been better saying that I shouldn't do too many miles over the summer because I've only had it five weeks and have already done 1500 miles!!!

Every time I get to saturday morning and the weathers nice I keep finding excuses to drive it somewhere for no apparent reason other than that it's bloody brilliant fun!!

Bit worried about going over my limited mileage insurance (6,000) before too long. Still while the sun's shining....

Just out of interest, where did you insure with a limited milage of 6000 miles? I've been quoted a maximum of 5000 per year. I think I may get through those quick if I buy a car (still looking).

I'm insured with Sunninghill and have been very impressed so far.
