Have any of your Griffs been fitted with oil coolers to try and assist in keeping engine temperature under control? I know of several kit-car owners (also GRP bodies) that have found this a great help and I would be interested to know anyone's experiences.

Not a lot of room to fit it in the airflow however...

Make sure you fit an oil stat.

I recently had an oilcooler fitted. Racimex with Mocall adapter plate (with thermostat). I'm measuring the oil temp at the drainplug. With the present weather the temp is not rising above 60 celsius while driving, and not above 80 celsius when idling. This seems to be a bit low, i know the the oil inside the engine is about 10 to 15 degrees celcius hotter then at the drainplug. Still seems te be very low.

Ive had an oil cooler (with stat) on my Chimaera for two years now (also mod wise two stage cooling) an am pleased with the results. Drove to Umbria last summer oil pressure stayed constant and tempreture seemed better than the the prevoius trip the summer before (n mods)

Unless you are caning the car regularly, no real advantage to be honest. Without the stat the oil will not reach the optimum temp either which will cause more problems than it solves.

For track use oil coolers are a good idea, i've fitted oil temp gauge to a TVR and at Brands Hatch saw well over 100 degrees C, but for road use hardly worth it, agree with the oil stat comments.
