40amp fuses

Anyone know where to get em from?

The fans' fuse went (seems to have melted!), but it was only 30A. Luckily, the car had a spare 40A which I have fitted, but nowhere seems to sell them. Any ideas?

Try Maplin Electronics - they've got quite a few shops and I think they possibly do mail order - I'm sure they do 40 amp ones

Hatfield market. There's a bloke sells boxes of them for pennies.

Should I be worried by the 30A fuse literally melting (i.e. the plastic surround)? Not sure if it was heat or current that did it.

Much better to half the current draw by the fans, therefore the fuse can be reduced. There will be a quite considerable increase in fan performance as well !!

David - you can't just leave me hanging on like that! How do I half the current draw? Disconnect one of the fans...?

In effect, yes. Via a relay take the second fan supply from the starter motor, thats quite good!! It will give quite an increase in fan speed as well! Or, use two speed cooling that halves the initial current draw, it will mean the fans use full supply only when the half speed fans are not enough. Of course there is absolutely nothing wrong with the standard set up.

Demon Tweeks sell them and are about the only easy place that does. Also when you get them put them inthe car and not leave them at home... gets embarassing otherwise...

Your car already has a fan mod on it, there are two fuses in the engine bay by the fans (1 each) I seem to remember they are 25A each. I had the mod done because the 40A fuse holder was so knackered!

I bought a couple of 40A fuses from my local Halfords. Don't know if they were the right size though as they are certainly larger than the lower current rated fuses.???? Will check next time I'm in the passenger compartment!

They are the wonderful bigger size fuses that don't actually fit unless you have a 37 ton lorry which is what they are designed for or that 2 killerwatt stereo in the back....
