get a strange noise under load, eg in forth coast for a bit then reaply power then it makes a sort of tapping until the engine catches up with the speed of the car then sounds fine (sorry if this makes no sense kinda hard to explain the noise, its not a hard tapping noise) any help would be great

Sounds like leaking exhaust gaskets, under load will create a misleading metallic tapping noise. you should be able to see black soot where leak is.

I will third that, one of my gaskets is blowing and it sounds like badly adjusted tappets under load. I have tightned the studs a bit, which helped a little but I can still hear it. Dont panic Captain Mainwaring

on same theme my 99 griff 500 has a tapping at idle which increases with revs. load etc has nothing to do with the noise. car done <15000miles. have checked stuff as per sh book. could it be cam or associate bits if so cost? or any other advice! ta

Mine had similar symptoms recently. Getting it back this week after having a new camshaft fitted. Costing me £800 at an independant specialist.
Yours could be something completely different of course! Best get it checked out if you're concerned, though. Would be unusual if you did have a camshaft problem at 15k, but not unheard of.

Edited to add: mine was so badly worn that there was a circular lobe on cylinder 1 and no lobe at all on cylinder 3 - I'd been running a V6 for god knows how long! Can't wait to get it back - will hopefully be a completely different drive
