No.1 How many cats are there in a Griff, reading the bible it mentions pre cats and main cat, that sounds as if there are three so where are they all?
No.2 Is it possible for a cat to become contaminated, in my case power steering fluid getting into the exhaust system downstream of the manifold, although I have cured the leak the exhaust is still quite smokey when it gets hot, disappears when driven for 5 minuts though.
Anyone, thanks David

yes, three cats in the standard system.
two precats in the manifold parts, where the four pipes become one (4" section just before the 90 degree turn in) these are not essential and can come out still passing the MOT.
one HUGE one. this is in the Y - piece. the BIG can behind the expansion bottle. where you fill the water!
this IS essential. the car won't run/start without it (unless you take Lamda sensors out - the wires pokeing out of the front of the manifolds - and add "fooling" resisters to the CPU...which i think will STILL need software alterations!)
any contamination to the cats is bad news. over filling with oil will b@gger them etc etc so take care.
not the end of the world for precats as they can come out!
by the sound of it, the fluid has drained out of the resevoir/pipes and has dripped onto/into? the exhaust BELOW the y-piece. if so no problem, this is AFTER the cats. it will burn off during use.
doubt any has got into the system anyway, as the exhaust would need a hole in it - and you WOULD hear it.
so shouldn't worry
