Guys, I have dreamed about owning a Griffith 500 for about 8 years now and this year it looks like I might just be able to afford a '95 example from a dealership. I desperately want it but I wont be able to judging by the mahoosive insurance premiums, because I live in london. I have 7 years no claims, have secure off street parking and have a job in the city. I cannot get a quote less than £2142...please help any idea how to beat it...I'm so close.

Try mannings via the TVR car club, they are pretty good. Edited by Saturn 5 on Thursday 27th September 09:32

Also have a look here http://www.tvr-webmart.co.uk/tvr_guide_insurance.html It is a list of TVR owners, their premiums, insurance companies and car details. It gives you a good idea of what is possible. Clearly whoever gave you the 2K quote does not want your business. I'm in the London area with a 1996 500 Griff, unlimited mileage, fully comp, garaged, 6yrs no claims, £600 per year. Good luck.

Judging from what you said you should be looking at about £1,000 I reckon, unless you are under 25.

I'm in West London, 28 years old, with a 2001 Griffith, 6 years NCB, garaged for £705 with Endsleigh.

Garaging your baby in London will make a big difference to the premium. I looked at it but the cost of getting a garage and having the inconvenience of having it 1/2 mile away put me off. I'd rather have it outside the house under a cover.

All of you many thanks for your help - thus far the quotes from the various companies on tvr-webmart have ranged from £2800 to the best thus far £1273. They say that I'll get a discount next year but not this as "I haven't had a 'performance car' for a year".. ok ok a Golf GTI hasn't the cachet of a TVR, but it' relatively quick. Ho hum, I'll just bite the bullet me thinks. Thanks again

Dunno if their calculators are still broken, but Tescos were offering some extremely competitive quotes. I'm sure they'll learn from their mistakes at some point or go bust.

Mannings were by far the best I tried when renewal came up this year. I rang all the brokers that generally give good quotes for TVR's

eneberi your last post really made me chuckle. If you think a Golf GTi is quick then you are gonna sh*t in your pants when you floor the happy pedal on a Griff 500! Let me know when the lucky day comes around! I want to be there to see the expression on your face! AF

Hate to agree with Sadun but A Manning seem good value. Im 29 with full no claims. £800 fully comp, includes 45 day green card for Europe, and track cover with TVR club.

Mannings do seem to offer good value, but you may have a prob with no recent history of "perfomance cars". I was told that they didn't insure people who hadn't recently driven high performance cars. They wouldn't insure my wife with previous Saab 900 Turbo, but were ok with me on BMW 328, Supra Turbo and Reliant Robin. Ok I lied about the last one. I found Classicline the best deal. Does anyone have details on Manning?

Im guessing an Integra Type-R would be regarded as a performance car, and it would be useful to follow up on the quote Tesco's have given me for a '92 4.3 Griffith (£1895).

My problem is being 28 with 0 NCB, and 4 speeding points in the post!!
1 NCB in December, thats when I was looking to go for the TVR.

Oh well.

I found Direct Line very good:
This was march this year:21 years old, 4years NCB,£1650 with protected NCB, 0r 1370 without on 1992 4 litre Griff. Go online and try it out. Only takes a few minutes.

Sunninghill Insurance for a 28 year old with an ungaraged 4.0HC Chimp was £830, including official track days and european cover. TVR insurance companies or specialists don't seem to include 'run-of-the-mill' performance cars as 'proof of experience' (ps Golfs are not quick!!)

A. Manning tel. no. 01491 578759. You will need to add in the cost of membership of the TVRCC. Good luck, hope you get a good price.
